Hi all,
So I just updated my system, which included a kernel update:
[2009-05-24 15:47] upgraded kernel26 (2.6.29.3-1 -> 2.6.29.4-1)
At bootup though, now my framebuffer resolution is broken. I've been using 773 which is the best match I could find for my 1440x900 LCD:
kernel /vmlinuz26 root=/dev/mapper/vgSys-root ro vga=773 5
Any ideas how I can get my normal 773 resolution back? 80x25 looks absolutely shocking

have you tried using vga="ask" to see if the modes were changed?

I'll try when I get home and see what that does

Nope -- no dice there. My only options are:
VGA:
80x50
80x30
80x43
80x34
VESA:
640x480
800x600
1024x768
1280x1024
1600x1200
1280x768
Interestingly, I downgraded my kernel back to 2.6.29.3-1 and booting with VGA=ask still gives me the same options, even though I can specify 773 and it works.
Hmmmm, after some quick Googling, it appears 773 is 1024x768x16, and not 1440x900 like I thought. I'll have to have a play with the 1024x768 options available. I still don't understand why 773 would stop working with a kernel upgrade though

Perhaps it is the right occasion to play with KMS which perhaps can give you your native resolution.

KMS is only available for Intel cards isn't it?
