Google adverts at the top of the site?

One day I ran Firefox without ABP, just to see how many ads are out there, and what did I see? I saw a Google links advertisement at the top of the site! For shame!

Seriously though, how much revenue do these actually bring in? Is it worth having them there?

what else to do with the empty space. tbh any income at all seems worthy... they match the style and don't irritate at all.

Running the forum costs money too . If Google Ads can help make up for it, why not? And like Stefan says, they're not irritating. I've seen far worse.

I don't think I've ever even noticed them until you mentioned it... And until donations can reliably pay for the services we enjoy in the forum, wiki, bug tracker etc, I certainly don't have a problem with them.

Text ads are totally fine as long as they don't distract from the content, IMHO.

Google ads have been on all the archlinux sites for a very very long time. Before the current redesign, and probably before that one too.
