Little Mail Transfer Agents: one that does local?

Does anyone know if any of the lighter weight MTAs can deliver mail locally? I know I can mail out logs/reports via SMTP and then retrieve it from my mail server, but it kind of doesn't make sense. Is there anything that is not overkill for a single user that can deliver it direct to a local mailbox?

"mail" can create an email, but it relies on sendmail. Is there a way to script mail to place it in a dedicated local folder?

Cheers,
vW

One I know is esmtp with procmail as MDA. But I have found that using real MTA (namely Exim, my old love) is most convenient for me -- no problems with mail queue, sendmail-compatible interface is quite complete, and most important -- it's flexible, while "light" MTAs are often written with one border case in mind.
