recommendation burning utilities

Hello guys,

are there any burning tools except the big ones like k3b or brasero that support essential things such as gui, options to burn and copy images, burn from cd/dvd to cd/dvd, burn an audio cd etc.?

I'm looking for small alternatives that fit well to lightweight WM's.

Re: recommendation burning utilities

xfburn or recorder work well for basic needs (including everything you listed).

Re: recommendation burning utilities

Hello fflarex,

thank's for that two suggestions. I will have a look on recorder.

Other recommendations are still welcome.

Re: recommendation burning utilities

Well currently I want to copy a DVD.

With recorder I can't find any option to copy CD or DVD and Graveman obviously isn't able to copy DVD's but only CD's at least I see only a entry for CD's.

A gui is not essential - it's a matter of personal preference. If you can get past it, have a look at bashburn.

Re: recommendation burning utilities

A bit misunderstanding...what I want to avoid is a program that requires any commands to type in. I looked also at bashburn but also that has only a function to copy CD to CD but not a DVD or am I looking wrong on it?

Brasero-lite, a stripped version of Brasero, with minimal gnome dependencies:

Depends On     : gconf  gstreamer0.10-base  dvd+rw-tools  cdrdao  cdrkit
Optional Deps  : libburn: alternative back-end
                 libisofs: alternative back-end

Re: recommendation burning utilities

I second brasero-lite, I've been using it for a while with no problems.

Re: recommendation burning utilities

Brasero hasn't worked for me in a while. It won't recognize my burner, I tried bashburn but it could only burn isos, or I coulnd't find how to burn multiple files directly.

Xfburn works, but it is slow as hell, don't know what's the game with that. Is there something terribly wrong with my installation ? I wouldn't know where to look...luckily I need to burn a disc on my lappy once in a blue moon so it doesn't bother me.

Anyway, I would recommend you take a look at Xfburn...

Re: recommendation burning utilities

CD/DVD programs I like

linux nero closed source so nil on the dependancies
gnomebaker
k3b (If I'm running kde environment)

I'm going to try Brasero-lite after reading this thread big_smile

Dvd to divx/xvidedwardscissorhands4x3

acidrip - seems usable without too much messing around and its a gui

in aur

dvd95
dvdshrink
undvd

are good.
