Since I did a pacman -Syu a week ago, I have no sound on my desktop system. I have two soundcards, one PCI and one onboard card and I suspect this to have something to do with it. I have a lot more controls in alsamixer (see picture below) than I used to have, but I can't remember exactly what has changed.
Any tips what I may try to fix things? I've tried putting the cable in both cards, adjusting the levels/muting controls in alsamixer, but no success.
I don't get any error messages, everything seems to be playing fine, but I simply don't hear anything.
Here's some more info. Let me know if there's anything more I should add.

I found this in another post:
[root@box ~]# aplay -D default:CARD=CMI8738 /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav
It plays beautifully, so now I know I need to set this card as default. I can't figure out how to do this though. I guess I need to disable the other one somehow.

I solved it by adding options snd_intel8x0 index=2 to /etc/modprobe.d/50-sound.conf
snd_intel8x0 was found by running cat /proc/asound/modules
In case anyone has the same trouble

I'm actually having a similiar problem since the 2.6.30 kernel, except alsa doesn't even see my CMI8788 card. If I revert back to 2.6.29, everything is peachy again of course. Tried redoing alsaconf, but that doesn't help any since alsactl can't even find the card.

I have the same problem.
I'm using Arch + kdemod-minimal. My audio card is Intel 82801G(ICH7) High Definition Audio.
After I update my Arch from 2.6.28 to 2.6.30, my kdemod-minimal show that
Notification from Phonon : KDE's Multime...
The audio playback device HDA Intel (CONEXANT Analog) does not work.
Failing back to.
However, I can use smplayer playing music and vedio with no sound.
