[resolved] copy files/folders to samba shares

Recently when I drag a file from 1 thunar window to another (which is a samba share mounted via fstab) I would get a message that says:

"This folder already contains a file "filename". Do you want to replace the existing file" The existing file is an empty file (0 B). If I click replace, I get the same message. I have to click "Replace All" to get the copy done.

I tried the same with PCMANFM and everything was OK. Thinking it was a Thunar issue, I just used PCMANFM.

Yesterday I tried to copy a folder to the samba share using "cp -R" on the command line and I get a similar message for all the files in the folder (something like cannot copy, file exists). If I cp a file, no problems. When I go to my share folder, the folder I tried to copy exists but with all empty files (0 B).

Once again, PCMANFM does not have this problem and copied folders without complaint.

This is arch machine to arch machine. I have 2 samba shares, 1 ext3 and 1 FAT32. (Always mounted via fstab. Never noticed this problem before.) No difference where copy file behaviour is concerned.

Only copying to samba shares seemed to be affected.

No problems copying from OSX to the same samba shares.

cp -R using root produces the same result.

I am rather stumped because PCMANFM does not reproduce this problem. Any ideas?

*edit* - booted up an older sidux install on the same machine and it had no such problems copying to the same samba shares.

Re: [resolved] copy files/folders to samba shares

I've been observing the same behavior using Thunar with my home CIFS server (Arch x86_64) for the past month or so. I experience the problem on both my Desktop (Arch x86_64) and Laptop (Arch i686). When I drag a file over, I usually get two or three warnings. Really quite annoying.

For the image above:
  1) I created a new directory on my CIFS mount.
  2) Grabbed a file and dropped it in the new directory.

Let me know if you figure it out...

From what I have seen, the permissions look fine.

Nope, hasn't been able to figure this one out. Google has not helped either.

Nate, thanks. Glad to know I'm not alone... :-)

*edit* Just to add that with recent updates, the symptoms have disappeared.
