Hello Mjheagle8!
First of all:
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wireless_Setup
Please don't use WEP 'encryption', if you can use WPA/WPA2 too. Did your hear aircrack-g and wep hack? It's absolutely an unsecure connection, i can broke it in 1-2 hours.
Well, use WPA/WPA2 instead of it.

Btw, i've got problem with the new version of dhcpcd, is it work with older style dhclient ? Wicd use dhcpcd too, i think.
Whick kernel/river do you use ?

thank you for your help.
i have already read that article several time. i do not have a choice as one of my family members' computers does not support wpa. i know it can be easily cracked, but we also discriminate by mac address.
i use the 2.6.30-ARCH kernel. i have not tried dhclient, i'll give that a try. i have wicd set to automatic, not dhcpcd (i dont know what the automatic option actually means, but it works for me.)

my driver is the iwlagn (iwl4965) driver.
i also tried forcing wicd to use dhclient, to no avail.
