00:07.2 USB Controller [0c03]: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT82xxxxx UHCI USB 1.1 Controller [1106:3038] (rev 08)
00:07.3 Host bridge [0600]: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT82C596 Power Management [1106:3050] (rev 20)

00:08.1 Input device controller [0980]: Creative Labs SB Live! Game Port [1102:7002] (rev 05)
00:09.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+ [10ec:8139] (rev 10)
00:0a.0 RAID bus controller [0104]: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT6421 IDE RAID Controller [1106:3249] (rev 50)
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: nVidia Corporation NV11 [GeForce2 MX/MX 400] [10de:0110] (rev b2)

The problem is that when I listen to audio file using Creative SB Live card and when I try to open a program or resize the window of the program I get scratching, disorted sound via speakers. The issue has been explained here. Help would be really appreciated smile

Re: [SOLVED] VIA and Creative SB Live issue

Is there any crash or something in syslog/xorglog/errorlog ? What module do you use ? Which programs do you use ? Do you experience this with alternative programs too ?

Re: [SOLVED] VIA and Creative SB Live issue

Did you follow this official wiki page ?

http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ALSA

Could you try it with aplay (according to the above describtion) and mplayer from commandline ? Is every settings okay, e.g. with alsamixer ?

Re: [SOLVED] VIA and Creative SB Live issue

I followed the official ALSA instructions, alsamixer settings are ok. When I play and audio file with mplayer, I can hear clicking sounds when I write.
I also tried to remove all the extra PCI cards, set the BIOS settings to default, and tried different PCI slots, I got the same clicking, scratching sound.

Re: [SOLVED] VIA and Creative SB Live issue

Did you look for a bios update for the motherboard?
If nothing works maybe you can find another soundcard for a good price, maybe an equivalent card to what you have, check the last link you posted for what other people were using as a replacement of their SB.

Still on the subject but not closely related, if I remember correctly the SB cards have caused problems after that too with some of the first nforce chipsets, I think the cards weren't detected properly or at all.

If you can ask a friend for a different sound card to test then do it and if it works get a similar card.

Re: [SOLVED] VIA and Creative SB Live issue

I have the latest BIOS version from the Biostar's ftp site (It's an Biostar M6VBE-A).

There are many possible answers to why the data corruption occurs. The most common answer to the issue points to Creative to be at fault. When Creative designed the SB Live, they didn't design it to support PCI Bus mastering, therefore when in use, the SB Live hogs the PCI bus.

Well it's not much of an issue, since I've moved all my stuff on the laptop smile
