What do you mean exactly?

Try the Wiki:

http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Fonts

...if that's no help, get back to us with more details:
Lcd or Crt, for example; what is wrong with your current
rendering...

Re: font rendering like mandriva, fedora or slackware

Are you using KDE / Gnome / ...etc... ?

In KDE, go to 'System Settings -> Appearance -> Fonts' and
'Force DPI' to 96 dpi. There you can also adjust Anti-aliasing.

Over to any Gnome users...

There will be a setting similar to KDEs somewhere
in the Gnome menu system.

Re: font rendering like mandriva, fedora or slackware

I thought the Fedora fonts were horrible? No? I was wondering why they had a thread about making them look like ubuntu's.... Either way, it has to do with freetype and some other packages I believe.

Install the cairo-lcd and libxft-lcd packages from AUR. I'd say they look better than the Fedora ones.

Re: font rendering like mandriva, fedora or slackware

thanks but for me important is not font beauty, important is that fedora fonts is more bolder and when I am working many hour with code  fedora fotns are less tiresome than other nice fonts in ubuntu or archlinux
archlinux is stable good system with newest packages  and I want to work with archlinux and no other distros but my problem is fonts

Re: font rendering like mandriva, fedora or slackware

yes but it is like windows cleartype where fonts background ligths with yellow color
antialias is more fine than cleartype I think

Re: font rendering like mandriva, fedora or slackware

kakhavk, I suggest you read the Fedora thread and follow its links. Find whatever makes you happy with your own eyes and hardware. Because it's different for everyone, which is why you cannot just ask someone else what the best setup is. Yes, this is annoying.

Strange but especially the opinion on subpixel hinting like in  litemotiv's screenshot seems to be 50/50 against and pro. To me it it appears as 'fuzzy with purple and green pixels around the letters',  others see it as 'smooth and clear'.

Either your monitor is a bit crappy, or you need to experiment with the "rgba" setting in ~/.fonts.conf

kakhavk, yes it's possible. Take a look at Mandriva's src.rpms, to see what patches they apply to the font-related packages:  pixman freetype2 fontconfig libXft cairo
Also see how they set up /etc/fonts/

And, of course, play with ~/.fonts.conf

Re: font rendering like mandriva, fedora or slackware

Looking at Mandriva's cairo, they are using Ubuntu's LCD rendering patch.

With my cairo-respect-fontconfig.patch smile

Edit: Updated Mandriva URL, for newer cairo version.

No really, it is a matter of preference. You will see it in every thread about font rendering. Even with native resolution and with the right subpixel order (rgb/bgr vertical/horizontal) some people just notice the color fringing more than others

Re: font rendering like mandriva, fedora or slackware

Here's mine just for reference:

arch-fp.png

I got a monitor with 89x87 dpi and I used the Arch Wiki:Fonts like stated above.  If you want to be sure your DPI is correct and setting up a global fonts.conf you could take a look when I blogged about it:
