/usr/sbin/apachectl necessary to daemonize? [SOLVED}

i have compiled apache 2.2.12 from source.  however i am noticing that /etc/rc.d/httpd was not created.  i checked the script in another installation and it appears to call /usr/sbin/apachectl.  i seem to lack this as well so i am wondering, what do other ppl do in this situation?  specifically, what binary shall i call in /etc/rc.d/httpd?  TIA
