Automatic security update

I wonder if the packages only with security vulnerabilities can be updated automatically in my arch linux system. I don't want the whole system to be upgraded, just the vulnerable packages(and their dependencies).  Something like yum-security but in archlinux.

Re: Automatic security update

Sorry, Arch Linux does not have the abilty to do this.  Arch Linux uses the latest vanilla versions of packages, and there is also always the possibility that the latest version of package $x might have a security issue that never existed in the former version.  I am not sure of whether Arch applies any security patches to the software in the main repos.

Re: Automatic security update

Back on topic, I'm sure you could do this with a bit of scripting that followed package releases online and scanned for the word security and then updated packages only. If you do it, let us know.

Partial updates does *not* work on arch. Forget the whole idea and switch eg fedora instead. They actually have a dedicated secuirt team, does code audit and other stuff.

/me thinks that a bump of a 5 year old thread, with no new relevant info, does count as a necro post.

Considering this is completely antithetical to the way Arch works, don't hold your breath.

Re: Automatic security update

Hmmm, yeah this threads needs a closing...

Don't know why fsckd stopped halfway into closing it. I'll close it and open it up again, if fsckd has a compelling reason to keep this open.
