Multiple Arch logos on boot

This is not really a problem but I was curious about something I was seeing. When I boot Arch with the framebuffer (i.e. vga=837 in my case) I see four Arch Linux logos at the top of the screen. On other machines I've seen two Arch logos and one Arch logo. In each of these cases, the number of Arch logos is equal to the number of CPUs on the machine. Is this an Arch or Linux feature or just some odd bug?

Just curious.

Re: Multiple Arch logos on boot

this is a linux thing, when you boot a vanilla kernel you get a few Tuxes

Re: Multiple Arch logos on boot

I usually disable the logos entirely by appending logo.nologo to the kernel line in /boot/grub/menu.lst:

kernel /boot/vmlinuz26 root=/dev/disk/by-uuid/6d9615d5-08f3-46de-975d-a2b8d6e38e9b ro logo.nologo

Many distros do it, not just Arch smile

Re: Multiple Arch logos on boot

Since no one has mentioned why this happens, the number of Tuxes (or in our case Arches) that is shown corresponds to the number of cores in your processor.

Can you have only 1 logo even though you have SMP?

Re: Multiple Arch logos on boot

I don't know of any method of cutting it down to just the one, only of hiding all (the logo.nologo option mentioned by thayer).

Re: Multiple Arch logos on boot

Lol I was wondering about that, thought it was just because I use 1280x1024 but guess not. Good to know why it does that tongue
