I have tried starting today amarok and it froze.
I've started it in a konsole, and saw the output. I concluded that it must be a gstreamer problem. I've remembered that many plugins appeared in separate packages... (RSS notifications)...
I've looked for a group "pacman -Sg" and there was it "gstreamer-plugins".
I ended up doing a "pacman -Sy gstreamer-plugins", yes.. and waited. After all the packages were downloaded, the installing process started.

I have a P4 Prescott @ 3GHz. It seems like a compilation issue.
I don't know exactly what happens in the install process (not that I've looked at it yet).
Hmm... I will file a bug if it turns out that it isn't on my system only.

I think gst-plugins needs a recompile because of the new glibc that moved from testing to current last week.
I haven't seen these problems myself, but Blaasvis reported them to me. Do gstreamer programs abort because of it, or is it only a warning?
Hmm, when looking at this one: I don't have gst-ffmpeg, and your error shows up when gst-ffmpeg is loaded. I will do some package upgrades and fixes tonight, I will take gst-ffmpeg with me then.
Edit2: It looks like I can't reproduce this on my laptop.

Restart & reinstall didn't help.
Starting amarok with the GStreamer output plugin returns an error, saying GStreamer has no registered plugins (and amarok is right, because gst-register halts when it finds the first error)

I really have no idea what to do with it (besides recompiling.. which looks pretty difficult to handle taking into account the big number of plugins - some kind of script would be useful).

why not just cd into the abs directory that contasins these plugins and runa makeworld on them if you want to rebuild them. or if that is not possible put them in one directory locally and then cd into that directory and makeworld them.

Could you do a "pacman -Q | grep ^gst" for me and place the list in this topic? I installed all gstreamer plugins now and I still can't reproduce the problem.
The only thing I've seen this with is the gst-plugins-0.8.7-1 releases of the plugins, which got compiled with --enable-plugin --disable-plugin which caused the plugins to be compiled but not linked. This has been resolved in the -2 release which has been in testing for a week before it went to extra.
Another thing is that you could have the gst-plugins-xine plugin in your system. You should remove that one if you have it on your system, since it does nothing but producing segmentation faults.

Yes, those versions are right. The gst-plugins-* files are on the FTP, so that shouldn't be a problem. Personally I think it's one of the codecs causing the problem, the problem is only: which one...

Well.. it was great installing each plugin by hand, in the order given by <pacman -Ss | grep "gst-">
Surprisingly, I found that one of the plugins listed there is not added in the gstreamer-plugins group. I'm talking about "gst-ffmpeg" (0.8.2).
I only found faulty package when installing everything by hand in the order mentioned above. The faulty package is "extra/gst-plugins-sidplay 0.8.6-2". I have removed it after it was installed with errors (ld.so error) and I have continued installing the others. gst-register worked and now amarok works too.

gst-ffmpeg is not part of gst-plugins, so that one doesn't belong to the gstreamer-plugins group yet (it will on next package upgrade if we don't forget it).
I will try to find out about the sidplay. Probably the sidplay codec and the sidplay plugin need a recompile.

This is a bug in glibc NPTL and gets triggered by libs that use TLS (Thread local storage) and load a lib via dlopen() calls that fail with unresolved symbols or library dependencies.
The nvidia TLS lib is such a lib that can trigger this bug. All people having problems with gst-plugins and this dl-tls.c warning/crash thing have a nvidia card with the nvidia drivers.
