Arch Linux: The Simple, Flexible (and Fast!) Distro http://www.linux-mag.com/cache/7469/1.html.

Good review.

Re: New Arch Linux review

Reading it right now wink
Arch seems to get a lot of attention lately!

I still find linux-mag.com's articles more often then not boring... It seems like a 15 yo blog, not the high quality publication of before. But then, now its free wink

Edit: After 2 paragraph, they can't even link to the website: http://www.archlnux.org/ instead of http://www.archlinux.org/ ...
Edit: Still a nice article that talks about Arch general terms. It should give Arch more visibility!

This was written by Chris Smart, the same one who writes the weekly features on DistroWatch now that Ladislav doesn't do it himself any longer. I normally find his output very shallow and not useful, so it's no surprise that this article is no different.

Somebody on this forum recently spoke of most "distro reviews" being more like "distro installation reviews", and that applies perfectly to most Chris Smart reviews.

Re: New Arch Linux review

Well, he is an Arch Linux user, who in his right state of mind, would not be fan-boyish when it comes to the greatness of Arch Linux? It just lacks the criticism that will make it look a bit more professional.

Re: New Arch Linux review

It wasn't horrible as far as it went.  What was more interesting were the comments complaining of lack of GUIs and non rigid adherence to free software, both of which I consider pluses.

He pretty much let folks who don't use it have some idea of what to expect.

Sad though, that so many comments complain about the lack of GUI--it almost adds truth to the BSD fanboy line, Linux is for people who hate Windows, BSD for people who love Unix.  <shrug>.
