Hi Zetsumei,
The GPU client running under wine is stable (although you do need to jump through a few hoops to keep your system in a state that can run it). I seem to be getting quite a few EUE errors periodically but restarting the client works most of the time.
If you are at an intermediate/experienced/advanced GNU/Linux level then you should be able to get it all working. If you are not experienced with Arch Linux in particular then I would suggest continuing with your existing setup and run Arch in a VM to acquaint yourself with it.
Best of luck,

Hi all,
Well actually 'Hi crouse', do you think the first post needs updating?
Also we seem to have lots of inactive users, do we need another 'call to arms'?!

I just installed f@h, and started on my first WU

I also just installed f@h (just before baddog, I helped him on IRC)
I've got two machines working for the arch team.

I'm not sure if this is related to what was discussed on page 15, but I'm unable to successfully start folding with a GTX 270. The GPU client shuts down with an 'UNSTABLE_MACHINE' message:

I'd love to get this card working for the Arch folding effort so any possible solutions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Jun;
If you have kernel-2.26.30.XX and nvidia-185.XX.XX drivers installed, you will get the unstable machine message.
Follow the steps outlined in post #373 on Page 15 of this thread.

Thanks, Pudge.
I found the older packages from http://schlunix.org/archlinux/. The GPU client now works fine after downgrading to the following:
kernel26-2.6.29.4-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz lib32-nvidia-utils-180.51-1.pkg.tar.gz nvidia-180.51-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz nvidia-utils-180.51-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz

Newest Nvidia Driver is still broken for folding 185.18.31
Maybe the 190.xxx series will fix it...? =/

Thanks whaever. I was just going to try the new kernel, and Nvidia drivers on one of my GPU folders. Now I don't have to.
@ markp1989 Congrats on your 100,000 point milestone. That's a big milestone to reach. Keep going, the next time you add a digit is huge. You are rightfully happy to reach 100,000, but when you reach 1 Million, you'll be ecstatic.

I run the GPU client on Arch 64 & WINE with 3 9800GT and 1 9800GTX video cards, although the 9800GTX is out of commission at the moment (the hard drive bit the dust). The four computers running the GPU Clients also simultaneously run SMP clients just to keep the CPU busy.
I also have 4 other dual core computers running a single instance of the SMP client.
So all told, when everything is up and running, eight computers (a total of 20 cores) and four video cards all folding for Stanford.
I'm leaving for vacation day after tomorrow, so tomorow evening I will be shutting everything down for at least 10 days. My daily average is going to take a big hit for a while, but I don't want all those computers running 24/7 when I'm a 1000 miles away.
After vacation, I'll have to scrounge up a cheap Hard Drive and get the GTX running again.

I don't know why, but I'm not keen on keeping F@H going on my laptop. My other machine has F@H running 24/7 (poor little P3). It's completed one work unit so far, too!

My first folder was a P3 , running on my server. after i replaced the server. i just left theP3 sitting in the corner. it served me for over a year as a server/torrentslave, but i had the money to update it , and wanted to add more functionality to it .
That old p3 was good, sff case, 256mb ram. 600mhz, got its for like £15 on ebay, and stuck a sata pci card, and a 1 tb hard drive in it, il put it to use again soon
@Pudge : Nice setups I cant afford that kind of stuff , im glad i dont pay your power bill lol

Using a Kill-A-Watt I figured it is costing me $65 a month for the folding portion of my electric bill. I'm 59 and have led a blessed life and I want to give something back. I'm not much on giving money to charitable organizations, because you don't know where the money is going. In some cases less than half the money actually goes to those who really need it, the rest goes to "administration costs".
I'd rather spend $65 a month on electricity for folding as opposed to giving $65 a month to a charity. At least with folding, I'm not giving them money, I'm donating the use of my computers so what I'm giving them can only be used for one thing. All of what I give them goes to research, the funding comes from other sources. I think folding is a noble cause. That's just the way I feel about it.
Plus, it's kind of a neat hobby. I rarely pay full price for new equipment for folding. A lot of what I buy comes from "I just have to have the latest and greatest" type people. When they want the latest and greatest video card, they sell me what they currently have for a real good price. A couple of my computers are throw off latest and greatest gaming rigs that someone wanted to replace. I buy hard drives & power supplies at computer surplus / liquidator type stores. For me getting folding equipment is like going on a scavenger hunt, and it always feels good to get good hardware for a good price.
Have fun folding.

Thats Understandable, I still live with my parents (im almost 20), so i dont pay that stuff, The main reason i started folding was to give my server somthing to do whilst idle, and i figured medical research was more realistic then searching for aliens. I didnt run it on my desktop till recently.
My server uses 90w when folding , i dont know what that works out in money, as my dad recently changed suppliers, and i dont know how much we pay a unit now.

Hi all,
Wow! How things have changed. We (team archlinux) are now climbing the ranks again. We have more members giving bigger PPD. My own contribution has increased by following the excellent howto and additional information in this thread to run the GPU client.
I feel much more positive about team archlinux. Perhaps pudge could do an interview with the Arch Linux Magazine to promote the cause a little further!

I REALLY need to fire up the servers again... had to stop for personal reasons, things are back to what passes as normal again, so maybe you'll see me posting up a few points soon

Do you think it would be possible to update the first post? New folders should see where we are now.

Take a look at the first page now, i did add/changes some stuff to reflect new urls and stats.
Last night I fired up 8 - 3.6 ghz cores ....... will see how long it takes them to show up anything.

http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/ … s=&t=45032 according to here im now the 4th most productive on the arch team (it will drop to 5th when pudge comes back from hols)
Currently im ranked #38th in the team , i expect to be 36th in a few hours
Crouse will probably over taking me now after his 8 cores show up on the stats
@ Pudge just looking at your stats, even when you have stoped folding , its gona take over 2.3 years for you to be overtaken http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/ … =&u=178236
