I need to buy another usb, pcmcia or mini pci-e wireless card.
Can you recommend one that works well? Because I never work with wifi cards on linux.
sorry my poor english
EDIT 21/07/09: add more information (thinkwiki):
http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/ThinkPad_ … Adapter_II
EDIT 22/10/09:
Finally came the expected driver, I think it's premature but it works perfectly.
Here the driver (r8192se_pci):
32bits: http://launchpadlibrarian.net/33927923/ … 009.tar.gz
64bits: http://launchpadlibrarian.net/34090326/ … bit.tar.gz
untar; make; make install; reboot and enjoy it
I test it with:
netcfg
standar commands:
ifconfig wlan0 up
iwlist wlan0 scan
iwconfig wlan0 essid MySsid
wpa_supplicant -B -Dwext -i wlan0 -c /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf
dhcpcd wlan0
The first time I compile the module, function correctly, but after scan for available networks I haven't any results.
Recompile and everything worked again
[b]I edit the wiki, pleased read it and help me because my English is a bit basic.
thanks

Hello takedown!
Madwifi is a known wifi-driver:
http://madwifi-project.org/wiki/Compatibility
But you can se ath9k, ath5k, ndiswrapper supported devices too.
I've got a tplink pci wifi card, and dlink usb, both of them works for me.
Hope this help.
Offline
madwifi don't support this card >(
i need some time to try ndiswrapper, but some peoples around the net are saying that this method not work
i will try it
Offline
ndiswrapper don't work
jmmmmmmmmm... appear that I need to wait some time to this driver
Offline
I would be very surprised if there is not a driver available, for two reasons:
(a) My T500 wireless works fine (though, I admit, it could have different network equipment);
(b) Lenovo has a reputation for having good Linux compatibility
Your lspci output does not look like mine. Could you post the output of lspci (just the entire thing, all your devices) so I can compare to mine?
Offline
Please note that the T500 has different hardware configurations.
Other options in wireless card (for the T500): intel 5100 - intel 5300.
This models work fine under linux

Please note that the T500 has different hardware configurations.
Other options in wireless card (for the T500): intel 5100 - intel 5300.
This models work fine under linux
This is true, I have the 5300. I was not aware of the Realtek model, which is why I was curious about your lspci. Unforunately, I don't have any advice except: keep looking.

Any hope that the 8172 could work in the next time?

only if you have a i686 kernel
I try it for a x86_64 with out luck.
I am somewhat irritated by this situation
Maybe change the network card for a intel 5100 or 5300

Damn, that looks very bad. I have no chance to change the laptop. In cause of this, I must get handle this problem.

Change the laptop for this issue? Are you crazy?
Posible solutions:
a) Buy a usb wireless card while waiting the driver (In my opinion, the best)
b) Switch to a 32bits ArchLinux, and use the ndiswrapper method (mmmmmmm, don't like it this option)
c) Buy the Intel Wifi Link 5100 o 5300 wireless card (maybe it's better than option a, but I'm from Argentina and it's dificult to find it)
Other sugestions?

I'll buy USB linksys WUSB54GC for u$s 35 tomorrow, while waiting the "beautifull" driver :s

Good news: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … bug/401126 (look at comment #15 and #28)
I do: make & make install (64 bits) & reboot
After boot the module is load OK, and NOW I can connect to my wpa2 with netcfg

Sorry to dredge this topic back up but I'm at my wits end with it. I got my laptop a few days ago (it's a Toshiba Satellite L500-1XD) and am having great difficulty getting the Wifi to work. I've followed the instructions above but am getting an error during the installation. Here is the out put:
[root@Hades rtl8192se_linux_2.6.0010.1020.2009_64bit]# make install

(Side-note: I usually use Sudo but login as root when I'm going to be doing a lot of commands etc...)
Any help anyone can give will be greatly appreciated.

Edit:
Fixed it in the end.
