The maintainer has already decided the official package will not have audio and video support. Compile yourself from ABS.

install intltool and farsight2 and then modify the pidgin PKGBUILD by adding --enable-vv to the ./configure

As long as farsight2 is installed, the ./configure script will detect it and automatically enable video & voice.

Has anyone gotten it to work yet?

Its working for me, farsight2 installed before the makepkg.

The functionality itself is still a bit buggy with gtalk though.

Any word on how or if it works with Jabber accounts?

Sorry, no Jabber account (unless you count gtalk) here

Re: Pidgin 2.6 has voice and video support YEAH!!!

Perfect!, I've created the package from ABS.  I've modified PKGBUILD with --enable-vv and I've enable "Voice and Video". But I try to chat with gtalk user (XMPP protocol) and the options of "medium" are disabled. I can't to select options, they are inactive.

Any ideas?.

Re: Pidgin 2.6 has voice and video support YEAH!!!

I compiled pidgin from ABS (2.6.1 and 2.6.2 version) and tried to call somebody with Google talk, but every time I'm trying to call I get the follows:

(17:15:18) Error creating session: Could not create the valve element
(17:15:18) Error adding stream.
(17:15:18) The call has been terminated.

Solution from ubuntu forum http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p= … stcount=93 doesn't work. Does anybody have the same problem? Any possible solutons?

Re: Pidgin 2.6 has voice and video support YEAH!!!

So far, I haven't had anyone on Google Talk to try it out with.  Nor Jabber because the people I know using Jabber aren't using Pidgin 2.6.2 yet.

However, I have been able to voice chat myself (not sure if that's just narcissistic or schizophrenic) either direction, GTalk -> Jabber & Jabber -> GTalk, but video chat shows the initial window and after accepting, Pidgin quits.  I have also tried multiple machines on the same network.  Not able to create a chat that way at all.

I found a solution - I didn't have gstreamer0.10-good and gstreamer0.10-bad, so I've just installed them and now pidgin works well. I can call to jabber users, but I didn't try to call to gtalk users, gonna test it tomorrow.

Update: Everything works: jabber-to-jabber (pidgin2pidgin, both video and voice calls), Gtalk to pidgin and pidgin to Gtalk (both video and voice calls). Olalala! :-)

Re: Pidgin 2.6 has voice and video support YEAH!!!

Does this still reply or is vv enabled by default at this point? I looked in the PKGBUILD in my ABS directory, and it says nothing about --disable-vv...  My options for audio, video, and audio+video chats always seem to be grayed out though.

@piezoelectric, it works. Make sure you have the correct packages installed (farsight2 and some gstreamer stuff).

Yeah, I had farsight2 as a dependency to pidgin. I needed gstreamer0.10-bad installed manually though.

Just an FYI to anyone who is wondering, gstreamer-properties can be used to select which audio and video devices pidgin uses.

I cannot find gstreamer-properties. What package provides that?

Re: Pidgin 2.6 has voice and video support YEAH!!!

I have a question:

Already having the option "Media -> Video call, Audio call, etc." means that my Pidgin was compiled with webcam support?

When I want to enabled it, I get this message on the chat window:

"Error creating conference".

(I also have one plugin for webcam settings)

Already configure audio, video device in gstreamer-properties and Voice/Video settings in pidgin.

Am I missing anything?

Re: Pidgin 2.6 has voice and video support YEAH!!!

You probably need all the gstreamer packages. I recall someone a few days back needed either -good or -plugins-good.
