Hi, I'm having problems with my college's wireless connection.
I have no trouble accessing the internet with web browsers (Opera, Firefox, Konqueror) but other applications (Thunderbird, Filezilla, Pacman/Yaourt, Pidgin, even standard unix utilities like ping or whois) cannot access it. It is really weird since Firefox can access FTP servers, but not Filezilla.
I access the wi-fi by manually starting wpa_supplicant and dhclient. It works perfectly at home.
Could it be that Firefox does network address translation in a different way than other programs?

What errors do you get when trying to use things like ping? Also are your browsers configured to use a proxy at all?
Also check that you can connect to websites from the commandline with 'telnet google.com 80' - it should connect without error.

Hello sebleblanc!
Does it occur all pages or just for some ?

djszapi: all pages.
neddie_seagoon: every program will display an error message about name resolving. Only Firefox and Opera can access the web.
It is surely related to my college's network, however I find it weird that only web browsers can access the internet.
