Thank you!

Hi,

This is the first message from my running Arch Linux system! I installed the base packages, later added KDE and some other tools and now I have a wonderful system which runs faster than anything I have seen before! I also installed the Nvidia drivers, added support for my mouse wheel, added sound and did some other tweaking. KDE starts in about 3 seconds. I have never seen anything like this!! tongue

Thank you for your great work!

Re: Thank you!

That's awesome, Mike.  Good to hear you've got everything set up to your liking.  The i686 optimizations really pay off (especially when your work computer is a lowly celery 566. wink )

Re: Thank you!

Well...I simply removed the SCSI card! wink

Btw, can anyone tell me how to get KDM or GDM to start after Linux booted?

Re: Thank you!

if i remember correctly (i am not at my comtuper). Edit the bottom of your /etc/inittab. At the bottom you will see a line about respawn and xdm change it to /opt/gnome(kde)/bin/gdm(kdm). You may have to change the default run level (which is near the top of the file) to read 5 instead of 3.
