networkmanager will not recognize wireless card

so when i click on the network manager icon on the start bar... i cannot open wireless or wired lan
i can however use ethernet wonderfully... but i am on a laptop so this is very ineffective.
when i try to connect with

ifconfig wlan0 up
iwconfig wlan0 essid "myessid"
dhcpcd wlan0

i get a dhcp timeout error

and when i type
iwlist wlan0 scan

i get devide does not support scanning or device is busy

any ideas to point me in the right direction?

Re: networkmanager will not recognize wireless card

what card do you have? Do you have the correct drivers/firmware? Are your modules being detected and loaded correctly?

Hello aaron.kilbride!

Is the wlan0 in your ifconfig output ? Are you beyond router, if yes, can you reach that ?
