Hey I have a raid 5 set up with 3 1TB drives on my ubuntu desktop and I want to move the raid to my arch server.
Is this possible with the raid being a software raid using mdadm? How would I go about moving the raid to the new machine.

Yep.
Have a look at the "ASSEMBLE MODE" section of 'man mdadm'

To enable the raid to be set up upon booting, the server has to have the raid params inserted into initramfs.
This is accomplished as outlined in mkinitcpio wiki.

Are you talking about booting from a raid or just mounting it via fstab on boot?

Perhaps I interpret your post to provide a raid boot.
If it isn't raid boot then fstab will mount the raid5 with proper entry.
Sorry to be confusing..........
EDIT: As to the server raid setup, when rebooting the server, mkinitcpio data in initramfs will assemble the raid5 and fstab will mount same...perhaps therein was the confusing part of my post. This would occur when first installing the raid system to the server and rebooting and any reboot thereafter.
