kde not working

:? Greetings, I believe I have a good install on a T-23 thinkpad. I
upgraded pacman then the system - v0.7 Wombat.
I'm having trouble getting kde to run. I used "pacman -S xorg kde "
to install, I edited my .xinitrc file, but if I startx all I get is xterm!
I'm getting one message when I shutdown xterm:

" Could not init font path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/CID/,
     removing from list!
waiting for X server to shutdown"

Anybody know how to fix this? Thanks in advance! --  smile Larry

Re: kde not working

have you run

xorgcconfig

before yo started?

and what does your .xinitrc look like?
i suspect like:

exec startkde

next one: you're trying to start kde as a user aren't you?
therefore your .xinitrc has to be in your user homedir, right?

Re: kde not working

:? Craw --  Everything you suggested I've done. When in root I get
xterm. When as user I get " Could not start kdeinit, check
your installation! At prompt I'm getting "GLIBC_2.3.4 not
found"  Should I remove xorg and use xfree86?
-- thanks for the reply -- Larry smile

Re: kde not working

your user is also in the "video" group in /etc/groups ?

and you should

pacman -S glibc

then...

and you can use xorg or xfree or whatever you like... they do both work
