Im not sure but if thats the exact command you issued, you missed the letter "p" at the very end. It should be:
setxkbmap -option terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp

I only needed to put the following in my .xinitrc:
setxkbmap -option terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp &
With no editing or additions anywhere else & it works perfectly. I use Openbox if it matters.
This also worked with the autostart.sh file in Openbox too.

Just a quick question: Which key exactly is "sysreq"?
Coming closer and closer to the ultimate goal: replacing boring old Windows XP desktop with shiny new Arch KDE 4 desktop. ^^

It seems that ALT + DRUCK + K does not kill the actual Terminal in Arch (worked fine in other distros) so its arch related (maybe about the kernel package)

i was going to reply being a smartass but the wiki page i was going to point to seems to be missing (or i cant find it)
edit /etc/sysctl.conf and
kernel.sysrq = 1
to enable the sysrq magic keys

I can access the wiki page?
Many notebooks can't use the SysRq key, even if they have one.
The other problem is that this particular key is being phased out; many keyboards don't even have it anymore.
& Apple of course don't give a hoot about it.
I used to be surprised that I was still surprised by my own stupidity, finding it strangely refreshing.
Well, now I don't find it refreshing.
I'm over it!
