Im currently looking for a torrent client that has a nice and sleek user interface. Something as close as utorret as posible. This is for a friend taht wants to adopt linux but needs a good torrent client, with features similar to those in utorrent. He has tried transmission already but he finds the UI lacking some vital information.
Any help on this matter would be greatfull and help a get a new user into linux.

I remember having utorrent working with wine but now a days when I try to use it I get into a infinite loop of installs. I have read that you need to use a cmd argument to make it stand-alone. Do you know whats the argument?

Have you tried Deluge?

But if they tell you that I've lost my mind, maybe it's not gone just a little hard to find...

Once you try rtorrent, you'll never go back! I was skeptical at first but that was before I tried it.

Yeap, I agree with sand_man. I used to use utorrent when I was in windows. But now I use rtorrent, mixed with screen, so that I can remotely manage a torrent box. Damn good man.

Herm... I just downloaded the install file from utorrents website and installed it with wine... it installed fine... to start it up... I created a launcher with the following:
env WINEPREFIX="/home/<username>/.wine" wine "C:\Program Files\uTorrent\uTorrent.exe"
I used the guide on the following website to associate .torrent files with utorrent.

*I am not sure why he is using gksu (root) to edit files in his home directory... I just ran those lines without root privileges and it worked fine.

yah i am attempting to install/try out rtorrent... was going to try it out with wtorrent or ntorrent... but when I edit httpd.conf file as it says to do in the wiki I am unable to restart the daemon... ill tackle the problem later but it does look rather promising

Personally I use rtorrent for a remote seed box and on my main box. I love it and haven't gone back since. This post was relating to my friend who was just new to Linux as a whole.
Thank You anyways for your help.

Well, thanks for this topic anyway. I'm now using rtorrent, and as total newbie to torrents I found it, and the wiki article very easy to use.
< Daenyth> tomkx: my girlfriend is linux
< Daenyth> srsly
< Daenyth> she loves the way I «make install»
< Daenyth> all her /dev entries are mode 7 for me
