I have an AMD Phenom II X3 720 Black Edition, with which I unlocked the fourth core. Thus PROBABLY explains the reason why the powernow-k8 module does not recognize my hardware. I have searched the forums and seen what people have done and it makes sense to me that this unbranding would cause the problem. The error is as so:
FATAL: Error inserting powernow_k8 (/lib/modules/2.6.30-ARCH/kernel/arch/x86/kernel/cpu/cpufreq/powernow-k8.ko): No such device
Before responding with "go to such and such link in Arch forums," believe me, I have looked. Unless someone has more insight on this problem than I do, I doubt that my situation is the same as most because of this unlocked fourth core (BIOS and gnome-device-manager label it as Phenom II X4 20 now ). Is there a way I can trick the system into thinking my hardware/processor is generic? Thanks.

Im in the same boat, though I dont care about cool n quiet. I dont get core temps from k10 temps tho.

Can you lock it again and try and see if it works?
Also you may want to see how that module detects the cpu and maybe try to make a special patch for that, may very well be just adding a line or something like that (I have no idea if it is or not, but some things can be that easy ).

It's good to hear others have some experience with this CPU. I don't know if it's a problem or not; I hear that the new phenom ii's automatically shut down unused parts of the processor.... which is fine with me, but if it can make my CPU last longer, I WILL use cool-n-quiet . I already hurt my luck by putting too much thermal paste, which I scraped OFF the mobo with an isopropyl alcohol cloth
... (surprised it didn't get into the pin contacts).
@R00KIE: Where can I find the source code for the module?

You can find the source code in the the kernel source code tree I believe.
