Idea: Have Yaourt send error log to AUR comments

I think it would be good for debugging if you had Yaourt send an error log (if error occured) straight to the AUR comments page of that package.

This might not be minimalistic, but I think it would be very useful for AUR maintainers and very easy to implement (Yaourt already knows your account settings through aurvote).

That would make actual comments very hard to read.
I like the idea but I don't think the AUR comments section is a good place to send error logs.

Re: Idea: Have Yaourt send error log to AUR comments

I think this would be terrible. Given the amount of people that use yaourt, and given that lots of the errors people get are related to either not having something installed or some misconfiguration on the user side, it would horribly pollute the AUR comments. Also there's no way for yaourt to know which part of the log generated by building is relevant, and posting the whole thing would make the comment even worse.

Why don't you rather ask for having a quick way to post the log in some pastebin service? Then send an e-mail with the link and a question to the maintainer if you must.

EDIT: I forgot to say that having something like this automated would convey the idea that one should just post the log somewhere and ask for help instead of *first* trying to solve the problem themselves and only *as a last resort* bug someone else about it.

+1 for everything he said!

+1 too!
I'm having a lot of errors reported, witch are not errors exactly, but user-related errors. Like no base-devel installed, or NOT READING pkgbuild before install... (where I put comments with patches to solve common problems).

Automatic reports from yaourt would be hell for pks maintainers...

Definitely not.

Only "useful" it would NOT be, for the AUR maintainers.

Why?

Because by far the vast majority of errors occurs due to misuse (forgot this, forgot that).

Re: Idea: Have Yaourt send error log to AUR comments

I'm with the 'bad idea' crowd... So many errors caused by user error, poor PKGBUILDS, upstream errors etc. The comments would just get polluted and become impossible to find the useful valid comments people post.

Also the potential for release of sensitive information - system usernames, hostnames, ip addresses, usernames/passwords. (I know I've seen some ./configure scripts output this kind of information).
