Re: Schwag: archlinux lanyard

I've ordered the lanyards. I don't think I'll be shipping until December though; it'll take a couple weeks to approve the design, and another couple weeks to produce it, another week or so for shipment, at which point I'll be somewhere in the middle of the USA and not anywhere near my post office box to ship them.

I'll try to put a preorder page up this weekend.

Shipping to Canada will probably be $2. USA also $2, All others will be $3.50. Those are just estimates, after I've shipped some, I'll adjust the prices.

Re: Schwag: archlinux lanyard

I don't know what these will be made of, plastic or metal.  If made of an appropriate material, perhaps the manufacturer could inscibe the Overlord's signature on the back of a limited number of lanyards, which of course would sell at a premium price.  Does the Overlord have one of those vibrating etching tools?  Could be a few extra bucks for Arch if it's possible to do.

If you want to pay by means other than paypal, we can arrange something. You should be able to pay on paypal's site using a credit card, without actually registering for their service, but I think it still requires you to enter an e-mail address.

I'm happy to pay by PayPal using credit card, which doesn't require an account or e-mail address smile

My account is still locked by PayPal since I refuse to send them copies of my passport, drivers license and utility bills to prove my identity! They can suck a fat one tongue

No, that stuff is shipped directly (and per item, they don't group shipments) from their POD systems. Most stuff I sell is shipped directly from the creator unless I buy them in bulk (case badges, lanyards), or make them myself (coasters, sculptures, keychains).

Re: Schwag: archlinux lanyard

Good news everyone! The lanyards arrived today. I'll be mailing out any preorders made before tomorrow on Monday. Anyone ordering after that is going to have to wait until I return from my vacation in about a month.

I'll be posting real pictures later today or tomorrow, but for now, there is a mockup visible on the schwag site:

Image updated... I just overwrote the image, so refresh this page and the picture in my post above should show it. These things are better quality than I expected, I'm quite impressed. Order away! :-)

Re: Schwag: archlinux lanyard

At the risk of sounding like an idiot, what exactly is a lanyard for?  Id badges maybe?  Or can you put keys from the things?  Or...  Something else?

I think I got one at a conference a long time ago, but wasn't quite sure of the point then, and there wasn't a wikipedia at that point.  I suppose I should use wikipedia at this point, but I figured I would request an unofficial response from the ArchLinux community.

2 x ordered... none@paypal.com is a valid Paypal e-mail address apparently. Not sure what that's done on your side Dusty, apologies if it's borked something.

I keep my ID badge and my SecurID token on it for work.  We aren't allowed to even walk around my work without our badges in plain sight.

@Dusty, what's the quality like?  I may order a couple for the guys at work that use Arch.

Re: Schwag: archlinux lanyard

Personally, I only use lanyards for name badges at conferences, but a lot of people use them for keys, rfid cards, and usb keys.

fukawi2: nobody@paypal.com received a "your payment has been received" message, that's all. I need the e-mail addresses to match so I can match orders to payments, but I found yours, so it's ok.

rson2: The quality of the lanyards is better than I expected. The printing is clear. I have doubts that it will last for years without peeling off, but it doesn't seem possible to scrape it away with a fingernail or anything like that.
