Hi, I just bought a sound blaster audiology2 pci card SB0400 and i cannot get the driver recognized. Installing alsa-driver and alsa-utils did not help. The error message at kde startup says:
Error while initializing the sound driver:
device /dev/dsp can't be opened (No such file or directory)
do I need to create this in fstab? I dont have a clue where to begin.

Have you tried running alsaconf?

that didn't work either, just says no pnp pci sound card found.

What's the output of lspci? Are you sure the card is physically plugged in?
Also, did you follow the wiki guidelines? I have a 24 Bit Soundblaster that isn't properly supported yet. The driver is ca0106 - what module are you using for the Audigy?

I dont know what ispci is. Im sure its plugged in good because it works fine in windows. I followed wiki and didn't get anything. I believe my module is emu10k1 (for audigy2 value zs- although mine is just audigy2 value which wasn't listed )which i added to rc.conf and that didn't work either.

My card is there but not recognized. I'm not sure which is the correct module for you to use, try googling for audigy zs and alsa maybe?

maybe theres no support for it yet?

I don't know if this will help you but a quick search with google revealed this:

I saw that site, but I couldn't make anys ense of it-especially the location of the documentation. I don't think this card is even supported by alsa yet (audigy2 value). They have suppot for audigy2 value zs and zs platinum which is a step up but not this. I was told they have different chipsets which could explain why that module wouldn't work. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to wait.
