on nfs4 clients hoping to mount an export off of an nfs4 server, it is sufficient to follow the step outlined in the wiki (http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NFSv4) and after that, to modprobe nfs. prior to running this fix i was pulling my hair out and finally ran lsmod | grep nfs just for the hell of it on the client which refused to mount the export (ie "no such device") and i found that the nfs module was absent from the kernel.
