Wine Crashes Xorg

This issue started up a few days ago (I updated xorg and intel drivers that day) but essentially whenever I run anything wine related, my X server resets and brings me back to my gdm login screen. Here are the versions of my relevant programs and drivers:

X.Org X Server 1.7.1.902 (1.7.2 RC 2)
wine-1.1.33
xf86-input-evdev 2.3.1-1

Here's my xorg crash log:

This is a pre-release version of the X server from The X.Org Foundation.
It is not supported in any way.
Bugs may be filed in the bugzilla at http://bugs.freedesktop.org/.
Select the "xorg" product for bugs you find in this release.
Before reporting bugs in pre-release versions please check the
latest version in the X.Org Foundation git repository.
See http://wiki.x.org/wiki/GitPage for git access instructions.

Re: Wine Crashes Xorg

I also encountered similar problem.
But I use lxde, and all my packages are up to date.
I didn't install an login manager, so run wine just bring me back to terminal.
My video card is an Ati HD3850...I just wondering if it's the problem.

Just tried it and it didn't work, as I suspected it's not a wine issue.

How about re-configuring your xorg.conf

Is there anything in particular I should look to reconfigure?

Re: Wine Crashes Xorg

you can try:

X -configure ./xorg.conf.new

then just copy and paste the config into the xorg.conf after checking for changes and what not.
or if you using nvidia drivers:

nvidia-xconfig

see how that works of course i don't know your video drivers to reconfig

Re: Wine Crashes Xorg

I did the "X -configure" but then I tried to "X -config *new config file*" and my X server didn't seem to start as normal, all I got was a blank screen, so I decided to not write over my old config file for now.

Old config file:

Re: Wine Crashes Xorg

Try this out and see what we can get from it:

[command] | tee [filename]

This will save the output of the command to a text file.  So when it kicks you off maybe we can see what is causing it.

or;

[command] >> [text_file.txt]

Re: Wine Crashes Xorg

That created an empty text file.

EDIT: I actually tested it out and overwrote my old xorg.conf with my new xorg.conf and it started up things nicely. However, wine still broke it, returning my session to the gdm login screen. Replaced everything again with my old xorg.conf.

EDIT #2: I've tried downgrading my xorg-server package (oldest version I have on my computer is 1.6.3.901-1) but that didn't fix the problem, so I don't really know what to do sad.

Re: Wine Crashes Xorg

Hi,

I've got the same problem at work, and for me the problem was that I used xrandr to set some settings when the xserver starts.
I've had problems before with dual monitors and resolutions when xserver does not recognize the settings correctly,
resulting in windows not having the correct sizes a.s.o.

But how I get around this in both cases is that I run: "xrandr -q" after the xserver is started but before my WM (icewm) starts.
Maybe you can just run: "xrandr -q" after you have logged on if you are not using .xinitrc to load your WM.
"xrandr -q" some how makes the xserver recognize the resolution and settings om my monitors and everthing is fine again.

I hope it works for you too.

Take care.

Re: Wine Crashes Xorg

Do you, by any chance, happen to run musca as a WM?

Yea, I do have xrandr setting output in the beginning. I'll give it a look, thanks.

Nope.

I temporarily fixed the problem by downgrading to an even earlier version of xorg-server, I'll play with the xrandr stuff and report back when I have more time.

Hi there,

I have the exact same problem.

I can confirm that doing "xrandr -q" is a working workaround. So maybe it is related to xrandr.

Here is my xorg.conf :

Re: Wine Crashes Xorg

I had the same situation for picasa these days and "xrandr -q" solved (by-passed) the problem. Thanks for the work around.
