wicd > Unable to Get IP Address

Heyy!
Finally i got everything work (or at least i thought so) on my new eeepc with arch linux (kernel-eeepc-901).
But seems like wireless aint realy working... I installed wicd to manage both wired and wireless connections, wired connections work very well and fast, but wireless seems to be not working.
I can scan and get wireless access points, but when i try to access it wont.
I try to access an unsecured network (at my workplace) and it says after a long delay with "Obtaining ip address" > Connection Failed: Unable to Get IP Address

If i set manual ip it wont connect neighter.
Here is the my wicd log:

Re: wicd > Unable to Get IP Address

Might seem a silly suggestion, but are you sure that your wicd settings (preferences - advanced) are correct?

Re: wicd > Unable to Get IP Address

Just to see if it works, you might try installing netcfg and follow the wiki to see if its a wicd problem or wireless issue. Netcfg will often work (I don't why....maybe because it's simple!) where wicd or network-manager won't. I wish I could offer some insight into your actual wicd issue!

Good luck!

Re: wicd > Unable to Get IP Address

Thank u for the replies!

I dont know what was/is the problem with the connection at my work, but i've just boought a wifi router for me, at home and it worked instantly and very fine here with WPA2 passkey.. im gonna change the work router to use wpa2 too instead of unsecured with mac filtering (how it is now) (< yes i added my mac to the allow list big_smile )

Re: wicd > Unable to Get IP Address

It started today that for insecure connections wicd always returns an "unable to get IP address" message. However, it is also today that WPA2 started again to work for me. Maybe it's the new kernel. I'm not sure.

Re: wicd > Unable to Get IP Address

I'm also leaning toward the "conflict with the new kernel" explanation.  I had the same problems so many others had when upgrading from wicd 1.5.9 to 1.6 but I was able to make the latest version of wicd work fine until the kernel upgrade.

Downgrading to wicd 1.5.9 works for me but I'm not satisfied with that "solution".

Re: wicd > Unable to Get IP Address

I believe I had the same problem with my EEE PC 901 (using stock kernel).

It was a wicd + dhcpcd issue. I installed dhclient and changed the wicd dhcp client (advanced) setting accordingly. I haven't noticed any ip address issues since.

Re: wicd > Unable to Get IP Address

I know this is an old topic, but since I may not be the only one to run into this, here's my story.

Network:
Disabled SSID Broadcast.
No Encryption with Mac Filtering

Problem:
Fresh install of 2.6-31 and wicd 1.6.2 could not obtain a IP address. No advanced option seemed to work.

Solution:
Downgrade to wicd 1.5.9.
Add the SSID name of the hidden network. (Since it didn't pick it up without this).

If someone wants the debug info, I'll be happy to post it. I have working wireless now. smile

Re: wicd > Unable to Get IP Address

I have the same problem on my notebook with atheros chip. I tried the dhclient thing but it didn't help either... I still get the "Unable to Get IP Address" message.

It's working with normal wpa2 hotspots though.. the only problem are wpa2 enterprise (with certificate and MSCHAP2 and PEAP) hotspots. I even tried it with the networkmanager, which delivers the same results. Therefore I suspect a kernel or wpa_supplicant problem.

Anyone having an idea?
