NVIDIA TwinView and full screen OpenGL apps (games!) gives problems

Hey,

so I was testing some gaming on Arch but I was quickly upset as I discovered that fullscreen games would fullscreen to both my screens, giving me an unpractical resolution of 3360x1050, not very nice for gaming. I'd like to keep using TwinView because it is convenient for work. How do I get games to bind to one screen only?

Personally, I can think of two tricks. One is a second X server and the other is getting games to run in window at full resolution but use devilspie to align it at the center of either screen. However, is there a proper way to do it?

Re: NVIDIA TwinView and full screen OpenGL apps (games!) gives problems

Check the nVidia README specifically the section on MetaModes.

I use:

Option "metamodes" "DFP-0: nvidia-auto-select +0+0, DFP-1: nvidia-auto-select +1680+0; DFP-0: 1680x1050 +0+0, DFP-1: NULL"

I have dual 1680 x 1050 monitors and this allows me to set the resolution in game to 1680x1050 and it appears on my main display only. Works fine in all games I have tested. Really only use QuakeLive these days.

I use separate-X and mouse-switchscreen/mouse-wrapscreen to move my mouse pointers between the screens. When playing games I just turn off mouse-wrapscreen so my mouse is 'held' in the screen the game is on.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I tested them and the only consistently working solution so far seems to be a separate X screen. Oh well, back to that.

I wrote two wiki sections based on my experiences with this and on your suggestions:
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Gam … es_in_Arch
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NVI … g_Twinview
Hopefully it is helpful.
