xarchiver can't open 7z files in gui

I installed p7zip, but when I open a 7z file (via double click) xarchiver just closes itself (after opening for a split second). The other formats (rar, zip, etc.) open/extract without trouble. Strangely enough I can extract 7z files using the command line:

$ xarchiver -x /path /path/file.7z

All my packages are up to date; ran pacman -Syu last night. Help appreciated!

Re: xarchiver can't open 7z files in gui

What happens if you run:

xarchiver /path/to/file.7z

Is there an error message?

Re: xarchiver can't open 7z files in gui

May it be that the archive is defect because xarchiver says invalid next size.
Please try extracting it using

7z e /path/to/file.7z

Re: xarchiver can't open 7z files in gui

Also try out another 7z file and see if that works.

Re: xarchiver can't open 7z files in gui

Doesn't work; just opens xarchiver (i.e. as if no file were opened).

EDIT: I did try another 7z file with the same results (xarchiver -x works, but not the gui).

The command I gave you just opens xarchiver?

Re: xarchiver can't open 7z files in gui

Oh wait, sorry, lol, I put "e" instead of "-e" originally. The file extracts properly with that command (xarchiver -e /path/file.7z).

It seems to be a bug of xarchiver, please send a bug to the bugtracker of archlinux.

If it's a bug in xarchiver, then there's no point to file a bug in arch's bugtracker; rather report the bug upstream. I see you did the right thing - looked at xarchiver's bugtracker, that's good smile

Maybe you would be interested in trying File Roller [file-roller], if you need a good GUI front-end for archive management.

Re: xarchiver can't open 7z files in gui

There is also xarchive -- which is different than xarchiver. and Squeeze as well.

I always use 7zip on windows, I am not sure if you can use that on linux.  Hopefully this helps

Yeah there is, but it's just a command line extractor (not a GUI), which actually all these programs are using the command line program to extract the archives.

Yeah, file-roller works much better than both squeeze and xarchiver in xfce.
