These are the keybindings that I set in .xbindkeysrc
# Music Control
"mocp -r"
m:0x40 + c:59
Mod4 + comma
"mocp -f"
m:0x40 + c:60
Mod4 + period
"mocp -G"
m:0x0 + c:135
Menu
"mocp -s"
m:0x40 + c:47
Mod4 + semicolon
But these do not work. When I try those commands manually in the terminal I get this everytime :
╔═[14:15]═[inxs @ arch]
╚═══===═══[~]>> mocp -f
FATAL_ERROR: The server is not running
So I thought maybe I should start the server. I put
urxvt -e mocp -S
in my .xinitrc, but I still get the same error. What am I doing wrong?

I always start it with 'mocp -p' or 'mocp -cap /path/to/file'. You tried that?

mocp -p starts playing the songs the moment it starts up. I don't want that. I just want the server to be up, so I can start the music when I want to.

Just make a binding to mocp -p and use that when you want to start playing? Works for me.

I start my mocp client in my screenrc by mocp -C /path/to/config/file. So using mocp -p with a binding would start another instance of mocp, right?

Thanks Elendig, but it doesnt seem to work for me. I put a binding for mocp -p and nothing happens. So I tried it in a terminal and i get my prompt back after a few seconds. The music doesnt start. After that whenever I try mocp -f or mocp -r, I do not get any errors, but the songs dont play either.
I started the songs by going in to the client and starting one. and mocp -f doesn't play the next
And psmem shows me that I have 3 instances of mocp running, which means that it did create new instances. So I guess that's the reason the keybindings dont work.

Do you have a song in the playlist?
It doesn't create any new instances for me. (moc-svn)
Edit: if you are using htop, then you will see multiple mocp threads unless you hide user threads. Don't know how psmem handles threaded apps, but it might be the same.
