I bought a Dell 1555 and I have a big problem with burning cd/dvd (k3b, xfburn, brasero).
Burning process is starting and it is stopping very quickly (cd/dvd is broken after that).
In xfburn I got these error:
Failure: SCSI error on write(272,16): [5 21 02] Invalid address
My DVD drive:(kde info center)
Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 00

Please some help!

Have you thought about that your burner may have a defect? I have had bad experiences with brasero not being able to burn cd/dvd, but it sounds strange that three burners have problems. As far as I know, k3b is one of the best burners. Did you try with lower burning speed, different media?

You may look into the cd/dvd burning wiki. In the troubleshooting section, it describes the symptoms you are seeing and some possible workarounds.

In windows 7 works without a problem, so is not a hardware problem.

I set permission for devices:
# chmod 777 /dev/dvd*
# chmod 777 /dev/cd*
Now it work with gnomebaker at 2x and dvd+ (Emtec), but don't work with DVD- (HP).
Any ideas?
Thank you anyway!

I have the same problems under sidux no cd burning and sometimes burning of DVD. Erasing CD-RW works.
Under win7 burnings works.
Any solution yet?

It seems that only dvd+ works for me (with 2x or auto speed).

It could be just a matter of finding 'compatible' discs for your burner, but I have solved all my burning-problems by simply swapping cdrkit with cdrtools.
cdrtools is available in AUR. It contains roughly the same programs, but it is developed constantly and contains less bugs. cdrkit was a fork of cdrtools to get around some alleged licensing-problems.

Changing to cdrtools solved my problems for cd burning too.
Thanks for the tip

I changed to cdrtools and no Cd-/Dvd- don't work too.

I had a similar problem with the Dell XPS M1340. I had recently updated the firmware for my DVDRW to the latest version (support for Win 7) , I couldn't burn anything in Arch (K3B, Nero, CLI), but could in Windows 7 (Nero). I downgraded it back to vA108 and it works again.
Looks like this is your model with firmware vA101: Vendor: HL-DT-ST Model: DVD+-RW GA11N Rev: A101
I tried searching for an earlier firmware version for your model, but had no luck.
rc.conf

My xps 16 ships with this drive (HL-DT-ST Model: DVD+-RW GA11N) with Firmware A102 and burning is a no go for cd's and at speed is only 0.3x for dvd's.

I found these firmware http://files.rpc1.org/index.php?act=category&id=1821 and I downgrade my A101 firmware to that.
Now I can burn baby!
