Hey guys, what panel do you recommend for open box? Looking for one with a small footprint, but that's functional and easily customized.

Definitely recommend tint2.

tint2 of course. If you want slightly more features like launchers and graphs go with fbpanel (it inherits your gtk buttons but every other aspect is customizable).

tint2, or if you want some applets try lxpanel or xfce4-panel.

My love goes for tint2. Really configurable and it does exectly what I want.

fbpanel for me: light but with enough facilities and really rock solid.

My vote also goes to tint2. Started using it when I moved from Gnome to Openbox, and never looked back. However BMpanel also looks nice.

Pypanel is nice too.

yep, I use tint2 (and check the http://code.google.com/p/tintwizard/ for easy config tool), but i have used pypanel too, which also is a decent panel.

If you want something that works great out of the box then try out bmpanel.

I used lxpanel for a while and it worked well.
But then I got rid of all panels and haven't looked back. Try it out, you might like it as well
