I have been struggling with an Atheros 50001X based PCI Wifi card for a while now. I cannot get it to go into "Master" mode. I have tried everything that I have found online or thought of and cannot get it to work. I got it for about $15 and at this point I am will to spend a little money to get something working.
I need a Wifi card that I can use as a Wireless Access Point. Any recommendations?
It must be:
PCI
802.11g
External removable antenna
Work with Hostapd preferably
Not too expensive
I would love to be able to type "$ iwconfig ath0 mode master" and have it work
Anyone else get a card working?
Thanks for your help

Although I don't need N support, a card that has N that works would be fine with me as well. Anyone?

What about the Linksys WMP54G? http://www.linksysbycisco.com/US/en/products/WMP54G My roommate has one running one master mode. He has a Slackware system but the same card should work beautifully in Arch. They are like $30 bucks in retail store but can get alot cheaper online. I have never had an issue with any Linksys product and linux. So its a thought anyway.
Thanks

Are you sure about that? I just plugged a WMP54G card into a test server and it doesn't want to go in master mode:
iwconfig wlan0 mode master
Error for wireless request "Set Mode" (8B06) :
SET failed on device wlan0 ; Invalid argument.
