Ok, I re-installed the entire KDE environment and Kontact still comes up with a intro screen and wont let me click past it. Is there another package for the plug-ins that I can grab and install?

Joeman1: hmm - this is strange. Kontact seems to work for me. Try to backup your .kde4, remove it, then log in and check out if Kontact works....

For everyone here: I was bored today. I was so bored that I have founded #arch-kde-snapshots channel on irc.freenode.net :-) It's free for discussion about what does not work, what works, what could work, why it does not work, why it should work, why does it work, why I don't work etc...maybe you will find help there faster then here (maybe not...). I removed the .kde4 dir and had it create a new one and it still comes up with the previous issue. I can get to my mail and other items, so I am not stuck or anything. I will wait for final release to come out and see what happens then.

The package "kdeplasma-addons-applets-kimpanel" should not depend on "scim", cause kdeplasma-addons-applets-kimpanel also supports other input method platform (like ibus, fcitx). I use ibus, and when I want to kdeplasma-addons-applets-kimpanel work with ibus, it works well, and I do not need scim at all.

Please remove "scim" as a dependency of kdeplasma-addons-applets-kimpanel, thanks.

@Joeman1: I read from somewhere (in the wiki, mayhaps?) Kontact now requires that you have akonadi and nepomuk up and running. Some of the big changes in kdepim 4.4 was the use of akonadi for some applications (like KAddressBook and the contacts function of kmail).

Maybe you didn't have akonadi/nepomuk started?

Hey, I was wondering, should I use the repos listed at the begining of this thread, or these from mirrorlist?

Include = /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist

Which ones would be better and more "Up2date?"

Well, the kde-unstable is an official repo provided by Arch devs. It will be closed up after KDE 4.4 is released. Our repo (kde-4.4-unstable) will provide snapshots even after KDE 4.4 is released (eg. KDE 4.5 devel snapshots; just the repo will be renamed, probably to kde-snapshots). At this moment, the repos are same (it's just about who is able to build and upload the packages faster )

Btw - the compilation of KDE 4.4 RC 2 is already running ;-)

If I am understanding correctly, in order to have a smooth transition over to KDE 4.4, I should use the kde-unstable repo? My goal is to use RC1 and RC2 for now, and then use stable 4.4 after that.

Yop, in this case, kde-unstable is the right way (or you have to disable kde-4.4-unstable repo after upgrading to RC2 and then wait until KDE 4.4 hits [extra] )

Do you think I will have update issues if I disable kde-4.4-unstable on my desktop after upgrading to RC2 when the final is released? If that is expected to be relatively painless I'll just leave it alone and stick with 4.4-unstable.

Should I remove my old version of KDE before upgrading, or just upgrade in place?

The last time I did this, I just did an in place upgrade and had issues with Kontact.

What do you think?

And, should I enable testing and testing-community as well?

Direct upgrade should work, but if you want to be 100% sure, uninstall kde-4.4-unstable and then install KDE from [extra]. Testing repos are not necessary to be enabled for this repo, but I'm not sure about [kde-unstable].
