Re: Laptops which run Arch

A 17" macbook pro.
Everything works, after some tweaks:
suspend, hibernate, wired & wireless, sound, video, isight, printing, fan control, mediakeys, backlight, etc etc...
It runs really cool. I get 4 to 5.5 hours on the battery, which is close to what I get when (very rarely) booted under osx.
I just love this laptop.

Archer since 03/2009 - AUR packages

Re: Laptops which run Arch

Dell 700m
Pentium M 1.8Ghz
Intel ipw2200BG
1.25G ram
Intel 855GME integrated video
Monitor
LVDS: 1280x800, 12.1"
VGA: 1920x1080, 22"
(Note: laptop cannot do 1920+1080 so no extended desktop, only one display at a time )

What Works:
Suspend, wired, wireless, sound, video, KMS, Fn keys, acpi, cpu freq scaling

Does not work:
Hibernate, dosen't resume, still to adding the resume quirk to mkinitcpio
no XVideo with KMS... is a known issue

Not tested:
SD/MMC card slot, firewire, PCMCIA

Re: Laptops which run Arch

I'm running Arch on my Asus EeePC 1005HA and everything works great. I didn't have to screw around with anything, but then again I installed it via Chakra and not by hand.

Asus EeePC 904HA working flawlessly! No suspend to ram or suspend to disk currently, but it is not a needed feature. I will be working on that soon.

Re: Laptops which run Arch

Dell Inspiron 1110 (AKA 11z):

* Intel U4100 CPU @ 1.3 GHz
* 4 GB DDR2 800 MHz RAM
* 320 GB HDD
* Intel GMA X4500 (i810), 64bit
* Dell Wireless 1397(802.11b/g) (Broadcom BCM4312)
* No NumLock, CapsLock, ScrollLock LEDs (accidentally tripping over CapsLock and wondering why your vim has gone mad, anyone?)
* 11.6" screen, 1.4 kg!
* Now running Arch 64

Everything I've tried works.  Using the driver from AUR for my wireless NIC, other than that it's "out of the box".

Stuff I've tried includes:
* Touchpad (though it's some Elan touchpad, so the only "driver" is a PS/2 mouse emulation, thus no option of configuring it ATM -- stuff like scrolling with two fingers works, though); I easily bound the extra function keys (brightness up/down, volume up/down/mute) under OpenBox with no problem whatsoever
* Wireless -- works
* Screen, video card -- though I had to disable KMS and have to use "xrandr --output LVDS --set BACKLIGHT_CONTROL native" in my startup script to get backlight control with xbacklight; 3D works, 440 FPS with glxgears
* Battery -- acpi(1) reports battery charge level, remaining battery time and remaining time to fully charge properly, out-of-the-box; battery lasts about 5 hours under "standard" usage
* Hibernation -- using ususpend, no problems at all
* Webcam -- out of the box, but no face tracking

Stuff I haven't tried:
* Bluetooth
* Memory card slot
* HDMI port

The laptop is pretty snappy, especially considering how small it is -- performance is just good under my minimal OpenBox desktop, but I haven't tried anything computationally-intensive like compiling the kernel.  For the usual tasks like vim'ing, wasting time on Facebook etc. there's absolutely no difference from my 2.8 GHz Athlon desktop.

To conclude, this lappy was a great choice for me. smile

Re: Laptops which run Arch

Acer eMachines E525-902G16MI

Almost everything works perfectly. Only thing that's not working correctly is the brightness keys. They work up until GRUB loads, but not after that, So you can set the brightness but you have to be quick. Also I haven't tried the sleep/hibernate button yet, but hibernate works fine.

edit: adding acpi_osi= to the kernel line in /boot/grub/menu.lst solves the problem with the brightness keys, althoug they are reversed (fn+down key raises brightnes etc.)

HP Compaq 8510W,  Intel 4965 Wireless, NVidia Quadro 570 graphics.

Everything is working, including the monitors when switching from standalone to docked.  I'm going to start a thread about one issue (presentations with external monitor)

IBM LENOVO T500

ATI graphics <-- sad

Most everything works oob. ATI needs fiddling with to get going (proprietary drivers). Overall, I am very pleased with the performance i get from Arch.
