[Solved] unable to mount usb devices after the last upgrade

Hello everyone.
I have just done pacman -Syu and after this upgrade I cannot anymore mount any devices - external HD, usb, or other partitions, except for / and /home. I get this message:

Rejected send message, 1 matched rules; type="method_call", sender=":1.12" (uid=1000 pid=4465 comm="pcmanfm) interface="org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Volume" member="Mount" error name="(unset)" requested_reply=0 destination="org.freedesktop.Hal" (uid=0 pid=4120 comm="/usr/sbin/hald))

I have downgraded hal and even re-edited the policykit, but so far nothing works. Google search also does not help this time. Any suggestion?

Have you already read the wiki and tried everything there?

Have you looked through your logs to see what was changed with that upgrade? It would narrow the field somewhat if you could post those details...

Does this also mean you can't mount it in ROOT also? or is this just with your USER?

Hey you can learn off my post a few months back if you like. http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php? … 13#p665513

Re: [Solved] unable to mount usb devices after the last upgrade

I had the exact problem after upgrading. As it turns out, my hal.conf file lost its settings during the upgrade so there was no rule for the storage and power group to mount or power off. It was easily fixed by following the advice in this section of setting up HAL:

I have seen the same error in pcmanfm. But I can still mount drives via the command line. So either use the command line, or follow the fix in the wiki.

Elsaturnino, you are a real geek. Thanks. I have just followed your advice and all is back to normal.
But, I have another question. During the boot process, there is an information that looks like this:

Mounting Local Filesystem [busy] mount: mount point does not exist

Is it something to be concerned about?

Re: [Solved] unable to mount usb devices after the last upgrade

Do you have any external drives listed in your fstab? If so, its normal. USB drives aren't available early on in the boot process hence that message.
