Hi
I've seen some topics lately, regarding wicd and problems about connection to wired/wireless networks. However I think that mine is a little bit different.
The Problem: Wicd doesn't connect to the wired network after boot.
Wired network is set to be the default one, to be always displayed and to switch to it when available.
The Story:
- Kernel 2.6.31 + Wicd 1.6 = No problems at all;
- Kernel 2.6.32 + Wicd 1.6 = Problem appeared once every 5/6 boots;
- Kernel 2.6.32 + Wicd 1.7 = Problem appears almost every time I boot.
The Solution: It's not that hard actually; just click on wicd tray icon, click 'Connect' and it's done.
The Hints:
When wicd does not connect on boot dmesg shows this:
tg3 0000:08:00.0: PME# enabled
tg3 0000:08:00.0: wake-up capability enabled by ACPI
tg3 0000:08:00.0: wake-up capability disabled by ACPI
tg3 0000:08:00.0: PME# disabled
tg3 0000:08:00.0: irq 30 for MSI/MSI-X
ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): eth0: link is not ready
Then I click connect and:
tg3: eth0: Link is up at 10 Mbps, half duplex.
tg3: eth0: Flow control is off for TX and off for RX.
ADDRCONF(NETDEV_CHANGE): eth0: link becomes ready
The Doubts:
- I really can't understand if this is a wicd or a kernel-to-hardware problem since it started after upgrading kernel but it's getting worse after upgrading wicd.
- Have you got any idea on how to solve it?
Thank you!
