And another one, willextreme - I was installing all the packages you listed and bless pulled in mono and gtk-sharp-2. I consider those (well, mono, really) part of the evil empire, the dark side, from the company which must not be named... You get the gist. For more info you may want to have a look at http://www.fsf.org/news/dont-depend-on-mono

Thing is, do you really want the massive mono and gtk-sharp-2 (53+ MB) just for a hex editor? Thought I'd mention it.

EDIT:

Removing bless frees 142.39MB big_smile

godane suggested to replace it with ghex big_smile that'll be in the next release

Re: ArchBang 2.00 RC1

BTW if you remove VLC and SMPlayer and use GNOME-MPlayer instead that will save you from having QT.

I've already mentioned batterymon - great little app, but on a more profound note: why jre and not openjdk6? Any good reason? If not, I'd suggest you go for the open alternative smile

/usr/sbin/init-jks-keystore fails to find a supported JRE when only openjdk6 is installed

I get some weird errors with openjdk6 instead of jre when I "make all" so for now it'll remain jre

As for batterymon I simply added in conky a battery monitor smile

-volwheel added
-battery monitor added (in conky)
-gnome-player/mplayer combo ftw (vlc & smplayer out)
-ghex instead of bless (50MB saved NOW THAT WAS A GOOD SUGGESTION ISO WENT FROM 700->650MB)
-added gnumeric
-more wallpapers tongue
-Firefox will stop asking you to be the default browser

need to work on:
-Installer
-Wiki page
-need to see how to squasfs+lzma for better compression smile
-64 bit version eventually

Suggestions & help are welcome big_smile

Re: ArchBang 2.00 RC1

Back in the olden days when I was remastering mepis and kubuntu I was into space saving and all kinds. I'll see whether I can dig up the old threads and relay any tips...

BTW, I noticed you got the firefox thing sorted. I would have suggested adjusting /etc/skel/.mozilla - how did you do it (seeing there is always more way than one smile )

EDIT:

toad@archtop 820\2 /home/toad > pacman -Ss pexpect
community/python-pexpect 2.3-2

Re: ArchBang 2.00 RC1

All the stuff from mepis is GONE! Shock horror... Trust the net with information and see what it does to you! Anyway, I seeeeem (no, the e didn't get stuck) to remember that there is an awful lot of space "wasted" on documentation, something like 20MBs. Doesn't sound a lot, but anybody who's been trying to get a proper OS on a CD knows it is humongous.

Another approach: list packages according to size and see what you can dispose of. Tedious, but it works.

Re: ArchBang 2.00 RC1

I'm afraid larchin for larch-7 is not yet finished. I have rather little time to work on it so it might still take a while. I think the basic structure is usable, but especially the partitioning/mount point selection needs work. If there's anyone who feels they could contribute something - or has better ideas - I'd be glad to hear from you.

Re: ArchBang 2.00 RC1

obkey? Cool smile Have you tried it, though? I installed it yesterday and even though I was pre-warned that it was a development version I could not get it work properly.

Also, yaourt is slow and requires a lot of interaction. I prefer packer for AUR stuff. But what should you care wink

gtkpacman - very nice. Most people want a graphic installer smile Also interested in xchat, is it a voice over ip telephone programme? I put skype in my autostart.sh and the whole system came to a virtual standstill...

-xchat is an irc client
-packer instead of yaourt I'll have to check it out haven't tried it yet
-obkey I haven't tried it personally yet. I'm used to play with rc.xml directly lol but I'll have to test it

Why not use xterm -e irssi and xterm -e centerim instead? Just to be on the smaller and lighter size if that's what is actually your intention.

XChat is much more initiutive than irssi and centerim lacks utf8 support.
