Thing is, do you really want the massive mono and gtk-sharp-2 (53+ MB) just for a hex editor? Thought I'd mention it.

BTW if you remove VLC and SMPlayer and use GNOME-MPlayer instead that will save you from having QT.

-ghex instead of bless (50MB saved NOW THAT WAS A GOOD SUGGESTION ISO WENT FROM 700->650MB)

-Firefox will stop asking you to be the default browser

need to work on:
-Installer
-Wiki page
-need to see how to squasfs+lzma for better compression
-64 bit version eventually

Suggestions & help are welcome

Back in the olden days when I was remastering mepis and kubuntu I was into space saving and all kinds. I'll see whether I can dig up the old threads and relay any tips...

BTW, I noticed you got the firefox thing sorted. I would have suggested adjusting /etc/skel/.mozilla - how did you do it (seeing there is always more way than one )

All the stuff from mepis is GONE! Shock horror... Trust the net with information and see what it does to you! Anyway, I seeeeem (no, the e didn't get stuck) to remember that there is an awful lot of space "wasted" on documentation, something like 20MBs. Doesn't sound a lot, but anybody who's been trying to get a proper OS on a CD knows it is humongous.

Another approach: list packages according to size and see what you can dispose of. Tedious, but it works.

If you are only loading those packages and deps... 700mb for Arch + Openbox does seem a lot....

How up too date is archlivecd stuff?? does larch have any thing to offer?

I'm afraid larchin for larch-7 is not yet finished. I have rather little time to work on it so it might still take a while. I think the basic structure is usable, but especially the partitioning/mount point selection needs work. If there's anyone who feels they could contribute something - or has better ideas - I'd be glad to hear from you.

Also, yaourt is slow and requires a lot of interaction. I prefer packer for AUR stuff. But what should you care

gtkpacman - very nice. Most people want a graphic installer Also interested in xchat, is it a voice over ip telephone programme? I put skype in my autostart.sh and the whole system came to a virtual standstill...

We'll be patient meanwhile I can work on making a solid live CD. School takes a lot of my time too lol.

-xchat is an irc client
-packer instead of yaourt I'll have to check it out haven't tried it yet
-obkey I haven't tried it personally yet. I'm used to play with rc.xml directly lol but I'll have to test it

Why not use xterm -e irssi and xterm -e centerim instead? Just to be on the smaller and lighter size if that's what is actually your intention.
