[Solved]Getting Sound from Both Headphone and Speakers

Hi, I have a 64bit Arch install.  I'm trying to hook up headphones to use on Ekiga, it's similar to Skype.  The problem is that I'm getting sound both from my speakers and headphones.  Isn't there a way to have the system detect when headphones are connected and only use the headset?  I'd really appreciate some help.

I added "options snd-hda-intel model=6stack-hp" to modprobe.conf and it works like a charm now, even though It's a custom built machine not HP with a Gigabyte motherboard.

Btw. my system shows that I have an ALC-888 sound card; hd-intel.

Probably worth looking at 'jack sense' (as it's known).  There are options you can add to ALSA to tell it which make/model of pc/codec/card you're using.  That's what fixed the problem on my machine, here's a post on this forum that might help:
