HTC Hero as modem for laptop ( SOLVED)

Hi,
I have been trying to use my HTC Hero phone data package for browsing the web from my laptop with no success.
The steps I have taken so far ( based on googling the query and reading the wiki )
1. Installed USB RNDIS driver for SynCE from the AUR
2. Brought the interface up ( the interface is named usb0 on my system, not rndis0 )
3. ran the command dhcpcd usb0

And then it broadcasts for a lease and then times out.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks
Samsom

Re: HTC Hero as modem for laptop ( SOLVED)

Hello,
usb0 interface provide new kernel v. 2.28 - rndis-list is not needed. I'm using HTC Hero connected to my Dell laptop. There is no problem with dhcpcd usb0 command, but I have problem when connecting phone to running system. If I connect phone and than boot archlinux than interface usb0 is in system. If connect phone to running os, than interfac usb0 is not visible.

Thanks a lot, mate. Works now.

I see. I thought you were using WM as mine. For that case I can get working by USB or bluetooth.

Re: HTC Hero as modem for laptop ( SOLVED)

I'm thinking of buying a htc hero but I really would to be able to connect the htc hero when arclinux is running and be able to get the connection without the need to reboot like it can be done on ubuntu (http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/A … c707&hl=en).

Someone already succeeded in doing that on archlinux?

OK, sorry for the question, it work pretty well. All is needed is to connect to the network mobile and then enable "share mobile network".
