Rhythmbox fails to play files, gives GST error message

You thought I solved the "no sound at all" problem didn't you? Well yes, in fact, I did. The problem is, my sound problems were two-fold, and now I must contend with Rhythmbox acting up.

When I try to play an OGG with Rhythmbox, it fails to play it with that stupid "Internal GStreamer error: pad problem. File a bug" message. When I try to play an MP3, the stupid thing crashes and quits (with no unusual messages if I run it from the console, other than "pausing pipe" just before the crash if I do 'rhythmbox -d').

I haven't seen what happens with FLAC files, but I doubt they'll work.

Compiling and reinstalling GStreamer with ABS does not help; neither does doing the same with GST-Plugins, which I would have thought was the origin of this problem. I'll try using ABS on Rhythmbox itself, and see if that works, but I have doubts about it.

System sounds work quite fine - I get the correct noises when logging on and off, starting programs, etc. In fact, I can't turn the system noises off, even though I have the option for them deselected, which I find rather annoying.

BMP works quite fine, so I'll use it until I can get Rhythmbox working. I'm having problems with BMP's playback volume though, so as of right now I must where my headphones only half on. roll

Compiled and reinstalled Rhythmbox via ABS... No go, still same problems.

Help?

try running gst-register as your user

Okay, just did that... Registered a whole lot of plugins, but didn't help the Rhythmbox crap.

Any other ideas?

Install gst-plugins-esd, it seems a very weird problem, I have got the same error message, but some time with pipeline one, I am not sure, now I don't use rhythmbox, I just know the problem comes with gstreamer plugins package, since it was divided into many small ones.

gstreamer-properties

run that, set it to output to alsa.

Re: Rhythmbox fails to play files, gives GST error message

I'm not using ESD or any software mixing, and I don't really plan on doing so.

And GStreamer is already set to output to ALSA.

(When output is set to OSS, there are no errors, but no sound either. Not really surprising.)

Re: Rhythmbox fails to play files, gives GST error message

have you loaded the snd-pcm-oss module or oss -> alsa emulation? That should get the oss to work if alsa is set up correctly.
