had problems since the 2010-02-07 update, i dont have any problems in
my second (non updated) computer.

the only remote posibility i can think of is libtool, thats the only thing wich i changed
that day that may be affecting the network configuration

wlan0: deauthenticating from 00:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX by local choice (reason=3)

or

wlan0: IPv6 duplicate address fe80::216:eaff:fe84:6624 detected!
cfg80211: Calling CRDA for country: TW

i think this^ is the error message althought i have to do more research on the
matter

Network controller: Intel Corporation Wireless WiFi Link 5100
mac80211              166738  2 iwlagn,iwlcore

don't know if the second line if usefull (but i think...)

Re: iwlang problem with kernel 2.6.32.8-1

What driver do you use for your wireless card?

Also, what does "iwconfig wlan0" say for these values:
    Link Quality:??/100  Signal level:-?? dBm  Noise level:-?? dBm

I had very similar troubles with my Atheros wifi card when I first installed Arch.  The link quality was very low, and I got such "deauthenticating" messages at random times.

In my case, the solution was to use ndiswrapper, and install the Windows driver for my card.  My connection was much happier after that.

Re: iwlang problem with kernel 2.6.32.8-1

I had similar problems as sdolim with low signal problems, and the windows driver with ndiswrapper helped me too.  However, the new kernels with better ath5k or ath9k drivers apparently do better than my old ndiswrapper configuration.  Losing connections is very common with a very low wireless signal.

Maybe IPV6 is not helping your situation.  Having it enabled  can cause lags in making connections to web sites.  Very few sites actually use it at this time- in fact, most ISPs don't even support it yet, so I always disable it on all my systems.  I suppose having this lag constantly scanning for non-existent IPV6 addresses might cause wireless connections with very low signal strength to more easily lose their connection. I'd think if a connection is barely hanging on to begin with almost anything like that could cause it to drop out.

Re: iwlang problem with kernel 2.6.32.8-1

thank you for your replies, I'll check your suggestionos as soon as i get home
although i shouldn't get low signal as I am a few meters away from the router
with no obstacules. But anyway I'm going to check that.

Re: iwlang problem with kernel 2.6.32.8-1

Regarding link quality:  I had found complaints from other users (on Ubuntu boards) that the open source Atheros drivers for linux have a problem where they didn't actually utilize the wifi's full broadcast/receive power.

This leads to low link quality even when you are very close to the access point.  The random connection drops happen because your card doesn't hear the AP's beacon clearly enough, and it thinks you've moved out of range of the network.

The advice given was to use ndiswrapper to install the (proprietary) wifi Windows driver for your card (which in my case I was able to download from Atheros' web site).  This boosts the card's power to full, giving you better link quality.

In my case signal level and link quality improved by about 20-30 dBm and 20% respectively.  The connection dropouts stopped altogether.

I've heard mention on some other threads here that the latest ath-drivers in the linux 2.26.32 kernel are improved, so the problem may not be as bad as before.  I have not tried them though, since the ndiswrapper solution is working well for me.

Re: iwlang problem with kernel 2.6.32.8-1

Quality=57/70  Signal level=-53 dBm

Sometimes

Quality=70/70 Signal level=-32 dBm

i disabled the ipv6 as per the recomendation.

It is still unstable so i think i'll try the prpietary driver

(old driver used to work with no problem)

lspci -vvv says:

kernel driver in use: iwlagn
Kernel modules: iwlang

apparently there is a path called:
[PATCH] mac80211: fix SME warning by removing stale BSS upon assoc failure
as discused here

http://lkml.indiana.edu/hypermail/linux … 03166.html

i'll may check that later at the weekend.

Regards
