[SOLVED] Troubleshooting Samba Setup (error starting daemons)

Hello,

I am on an i686 pc running Chakra (ArchLinux+KDEmod)..

I have been trying all day to setup Samba on my PC so I can share my Music folder (which lays on an NTFS partition) with my girlfriend's laptop running Windows Vista.

My problem seems to be rather fundamental since following the Samba guide from the ArchWiki I am stuck at step #2.2: Starting and automating the daemons

This is the error I get when attempting to start fam:

[tetris4@tetris4-dsktp ~]$ /etc/rc.d/fam start
:: Starting rpcbind                                                          [FAIL]
:: Starting File Alteration Monitor [FAIL]
ERROR: rpcbind is not running

I started rpcbind by "sudo rpcbind" and it looks to be running in the Process Table. Still the error persists.

Let me point out that am a complete n00b at anything related to this, so help is very appreciated.
Thank you..

Re: [SOLVED] Troubleshooting Samba Setup (error starting daemons)

dont try fam, simply try

/etc/rc.d/samba start

see how it goes.

Yeah I tried that too! But I kept getting a fail to start samba error!

I was looking for an entire day the solution to this, changed the settings like a thousand times, read every manual and how-to I could find! And still couldn't start samba!

I felt so dumb after realising it only needed a sudo! hmm

maybe the archwiki could use a refresh..

thnx m8
