Samba shares inaccessible - I think it's ConsoleKit's fault

I recently pacman -Syu'd after a long while (I really should update more often). Some things broke, as expected. I fixed most, but one problem still remains: all my samba shares are completely inaccessible. I tried getting to them from my Vista laptop, without luck. Trying to access them locally, I get:

Domain=[MSHOME] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.4.5]
Server not using user level security and no password supplied.
tree connect failed: NT_STATUS_BAD_NETWORK_NAME

And in the /var/log/samba/smbd.log file:

[2010/02/24 21:57:11,  0] smbd/service.c:1009(make_connection_snum)
  '/media/Fortress/software' does not exist or permission denied when connecting to [software] Error was Toegang geweigerd

Where 'Toegang geweigerd' is Dutch for 'Access denied'.

I'm pretty sure samba is set up correctly, because it worked fine before.
However, since the update, I have changed my .xinitrc file to include ck-launch-session, because else automounting of my external HDDs wouldn't work. As it happens, all my shares are located on these external drives.

My theory at the moment is that ConsoleKit (why do I need it anyway?) is causing my external drives to be mounted with different (i.e. more restrictive) permissions than before, making it impossible for samba to access them. I have tried to find out how to change the permissions with which external drives are mounted, but due to shitty documentation and google being extremely unhelpful, I haven't succeeded thus far. I have literally no idea where this is configured.

So basically the question is: how do I check with which permissions removable drives are mounted by HAL, and how do I change them, if necessary?
It's also possible that I'm looking in the wrong direction, so if you have another take on this, let me know please smile
