Internet sharing problem [solved]

I have computer A, linux box, with samba, and it shares internet with computer B. If I try to disconnect computer B and connect laptop C, Laptop C can't get connection with the internet.

how is that possible? Do I have to change something in some configfiles?

*edit: I also get the following messages in kernel.log when I restart my adsl-connection: Nectar: eth0: no IPv6 routers present
(same for eth1)

Re: Internet sharing problem [solved]

I understand only comp A runs Arch.

Do you have your laptop properly configured? Proper gateway set etc.?

Maybe you're running dhcp on your server and/or you allow only specific MACs (or IPs) to connect to the Internet.

Your description is somewhat enigmatic, please brief us with more details :-)

Re: Internet sharing problem [solved]

yes I'm sorry for that. My laptop is configured the same as computer B. (both running windows) So gateway etc. is correct on both computers. I just tried to ping www.some-site.com and that didn't work.

An external IP could be pinged, so I guess there has to be a misconfiguration of DNS settings?

what the hell... everything works just fine now... I guess there was a temporary downtime on the nameservers of my ISP. :?

You want a nice tip?

Install dhcp on your gateway, and let your clients be assigned automatic.
If your looking for a good iptables generator, take a look at http://firehol.sf.net .

To err is human... to really foul up requires the root password.
