Yes, sorry, I meant the "-smp" flag was only for 64bit. I don't know anything about the AUR packages, so I'm glad you got it working, again, welcome aboard!

That depends a lot on how you use your computer. For example, I have a C2Q 2.4GHz, and my current PPD is 775. I don't think that yours is so low in comparison, then.

Re: F@H Arch Linux Team - Recruitment & Stats thread - HELP US !.

I've noticed some WU upload issues on a new arch quad core machine I put together.  Most of the WU's failed to upload with a corestatus of 12 (18).  I looked this up at http://fahwiki.net/index.php/CoreStatus_codes#12 and there is a note about ext4.  The /opt partition is formatted ext4.  Hmm, anybody seen this?

I also found a thread, http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f … 00&start=0 that talks about a little more.  Just for kicks, I reinstalled arch on the new quad machine and used ext3.  The first WU should finish in the next 2 hrs or so.

My other arch quad core has been folding perfectly from mid Nov09 24/7, but the partition where  /opt is installed is ext3.

My /opt is ext4 and I have had no problems that didn't solve themselves.

Re: F@H Arch Linux Team - Recruitment & Stats thread - HELP US !.

Good to know.  I've read about others with problems that also "fixed" themselves.

I do have the new machine overclocked and the forceasm option set, which can cause some problems (crashes, etc.), but I have tried w/o overclocking and has similar results.  Guess that's the way it goes.

Re: F@H Arch Linux Team - Recruitment & Stats thread - HELP US !.

I use ext4 on my /home, which is where I run F@H from (yay not installing through pacman! tongue) and I also have no problems. I haven't ever had any problems except once when I ran it without the -smp and it deleted my 78% WU because it was invalid, that was annoying

Re: F@H Arch Linux Team - Recruitment & Stats thread - HELP US !.

Just noticed this thread. I had forgotten about my PS3 which has been sitting idle for many months. I joined the team (bgalakazam) so hopefully I can contribute since I rarely use my PS3, I can keep it on for a few hours each day doing F@H. big_smile

EDIT: Who do we talk to to get added to the F@H team in the forums?

It's been a while since we've had a new millionaire, but Diesel1 recently passed the 1 Million mark.

Congratulations Diesel1.  Good job Mate.

Thanks Pudge,

I haven't looked at the stats since stopping the GPU client and didn't know I had a million points!

Re: F@H Arch Linux Team - Recruitment & Stats thread - HELP US !.

Hmm, seems that I get close to 1100 PPD on the PS3 if it's on 24/7. First couple of days I was powering it off for a few hours, but last few it's been on 24/7. Good output, I'm happy.

Only problem is, it's the European PS3, and I have to use it with a power converter here in the US, and I am afraid the converter itself might go bad. So far no problems though. Arch Linux is getting TEH POINTZ.

Re: F@H Arch Linux Team - Recruitment & Stats thread - HELP US !.

It's too bad they don't support SMP on 32bit for Linux. My desktop has Intel dual core OC-ed at 3Ghz each core, but it's 32 bit. I run the regular client now and then, but it's not worth it.

PS3 is on 24/7 with very minor breaks once every few days. Let's move some spots up guys!

Re: F@H Arch Linux Team - Recruitment & Stats thread - HELP US !.

Just joined!!! its a pleasure to be on the team big_smile

Joined FAH with a Phenom II X4 3.0Ghz, 8GB of RAM lol

One question though:

In options I dont understand this:

IP address to bind core to (for viewer). Use space to clear []?

What is that for?

Also, I cant see my name on the team members/stats page, why?

Re: F@H Arch Linux Team - Recruitment & Stats thread - HELP US !.

I'm starting my F@H adventure today as well. :P

Right now I've only got my Arch desktop running, but I can set up my PS3 to contribute once I get back from work. I've also got at least one old server box sitting in a closet somewhere I can get set up sometime.

Hrmm... This might finally get me to take the plunge and ditch my 32-bit install for 64-bit.

I'm guessing it's because we need to complete at least one work unit to have any stats.

Re: F@H Arch Linux Team - Recruitment & Stats thread - HELP US !.

Hi! I'm trying to join, but when I run it all that appears in /opt/fah-smp/$FAH_USER/FAHlog.txt is

[20:26:40] Initial: 0000; + No appropriate work server was available; will try again in a bit.
[20:26:40] + Couldn't get work instructions.
[20:26:40] - Attempt #6 to get work failed, and no other work to do.

Also, no unitinfo.txt is being created.

Edit: Nevermind, its started now.

Re: F@H Arch Linux Team - Recruitment & Stats thread - HELP US !.

People of the archlinux Folding@home team rejoice!!...folding on nvidia cards with the latest drivers (195.36.15 as of this post), the cuda 2.3 toolkit, and the 2.1 nvcuda wrapper now works once again. big_smile

Im actually a BIT late on finding this out, saw it talked about on the folding@home forums back in March...so I figured Id update my gpu-folding aur packages and even went and installed arch on a nvidia machine to try it out myself!

Isnt it pretty?....yeah I know I installed gnome desktop but I needed something quick and complete~ish and...didnt really care ;P
Brand spanking new, totally up-to-date archlinux install:
screenshotkih.th.png

So for those of you that dont know the package requires bin32-wine to be installed and after that (to make things easier downloading dependencies) I would recommend yaourt and run

yaourt -S foldingathome-gpu-nvidia

once everything is installed just run the daemon:

sudo /etc/rc.d/foldingathome-gpu start

On the VERY first run a wineprefix will be created in /opt/fah-gpu/ and you'll have to go through and input your username, team id, and passkey (if you have one) to config the folding client..and then it will run smile..theres no need to stop/start it like I did in that screenshot heh ^^"

Also the daemon can be set to use up to 8 different gpu clients this is set in the "/etc/conf.d/foldingathome-gpu" config file
Unfortunatly I cant show that in the screenshot as I only have a 9800GT to work with..but the option is there tongue

~Happy Folding!!!~ big_smile
